MOST VENERABLE BHIKKHUNI RU RUI – CHINA

Born in 1957 in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, China, she had the good fortune to meet Elder Master Tongyuan in her youth.  Deeply moved by his compassion and great vows, she resolved to follow him and dedicate her life to the service of Buddhism.  She became a novice in 1981 and a full Bhikkhuni in 1984.  After the passing away of her teacher in 1991, she faithfully adhered to his teachings and took on the mission of rebuilding Pushou Monastery on Wutai Mountain. Most Venerable Bhikkhuni Ru Rui leads by example and strictly follows the precepts.  She consistently practices with the principles of “offering to the Triple Gem with sincerity, serving all beings with compassion, maintaining humility in self-discipline, and emulating the actions of the Buddha.”  She actively advocates and implements the spirit of “faith, enthusiasm, responsibility, endurance, and perseverance,” setting an excellent example for the new generation of monastics. She notes that the “precepts are like the earth – they are not all things, but give rise to all things.  Precepts are not meant to bind people but to help them eliminate negative habits and tendencies, leading to true freedom and happiness.” Most Venerable Bhikkhuni Ru Rui created the “Three Plus One Monastic Education” concept and established the Wutai Mountain Buddhist Institute for Nuns.  The “Three” refers to Pushou Monastery (the cultivation base), Dasheng Monastery (an educational facility), and the Bodhi Love Association (a charitable organization), and “One” refers to “Qingtaiyuan,” (a charity project managed by the association).  She created a plan for monastic education that involved collaboration between the monastery and secular universities, in order to train nuns to meet the demands of modern society.  She created a process for:  practice, education and charity.

Most Venerable created “World Wisdom Day,” the fourth day of the fourth lunar month, which is Manjushri Bodhisattva’s birthday, to reflect auspiciousness and harmony for humanity.  Wutai Mountain is Manjushri’s sacred site of transformation. Most Venerable Bhikkhuni Ru Rui holds an honorary doctorate in Buddhism from Mahachulalongkorn University, 2017, and in the same year was awarded the “Chinese Cultural Figure Award” by the China Cultural Promotion Association and Phoenix TV. Currently, she serves as the Vice President of the Buddhist Association of China, Vice President of the Shanxi Buddhist Association, and Dean of the Wutai Mountain Buddhist Institute for Nuns.

最尊敬的如瑞比丘尼 – 中國

最尊敬的如瑞比丘尼於1957年出生於中國山西省太原市。年輕時有幸遇見通願長老尼，深受其慈悲和宏願的感召，決心追隨其腳步，將一生奉獻於佛教事業。1981年，她出家為沙彌尼，1984年正式受具足戒成為比丘尼。1991年，恩師圓寂後，她秉承師訓，肩負起重建五臺山普壽寺的使命。 最尊敬的如瑞比丘尼以身作則，嚴持戒律，始終以「至誠供養三寶、慈悲服務眾生、謙虛自律、效仿佛陀行持」為修行準則。她積極倡導並身體力行「信心、熱忱、責任、堅忍與毅力」的精神，為新一代僧人樹立了榜樣。 她指出：「戒律如同大地，雖非萬物，但能生萬物。戒律並非用來束縛人，而是幫助人消除負面習氣，導向真正的自由與快樂。」

最尊敬的如瑞比丘尼創立了「三加一僧伽教育」的理念，並建立了五臺山尼眾佛學院。「三」指普壽寺（修道基地）、大乘寺（教育機構）和菩提愛心協會（慈善組織），「一」指「清泰園」（由菩提愛心協會管理的慈善項目）。她制定了一套寺院與世俗大學合作的僧伽教育計畫，以培養能夠適應現代社會需求的尼眾。她創建了將修行、教育與慈善結合為一體的模式。最尊敬的如瑞比丘尼創立了「世界智慧日」，即農曆四月初四—文殊菩薩聖誕，表徵人類的吉祥與和諧。五臺山是文殊菩薩顯化的的道場與聖地。2017年，最尊敬的如瑞比丘尼榮獲泰國摩訶朱拉隆功大學頒發的佛學榮譽博士學位，同年獲頒中華文化促進會與鳳凰衛視授予的「中華文化人物獎」。目前，她擔任中國佛教協會副會長、山西省佛教協會副會長及五臺山尼眾佛學院院長。

MOST VENERABLE BHIKKUNI NG A. TJIO – INDONESIA

Most Venerable Bhikkhuni Ng A. Tjio was born in Medan, Indonesia in 1960.  She earned her degree in Health Sciences.  Later, she ordained as a Samaneri and then as a Bhikkhuni. She built three temples:  Padmamul Temple in Palembang in 1992, Bao En Temple in Palembang in 1995, and Prajna Dhayana Temple in Jakarta in 2011.  Currently, she is the Abbess of Prajna Shanti Temple in Palembang. Most Venerable Bhikkhuni Ng A. Tjio represented Palembang and Jakarta as a member of Sangha WALUBI, Indonesia’s Buddhist Sangha Council.  She also contributed nationally, beyond her duties of daily temple life, by accepting responsibility for the main altar decorations during Vesak Day at Mendut Temple from 2003-2005, at Borobudur Temple from 2006-2016, and the main Mahayana altar for Vesak Day 2023 in Borobudur.  She represented Indonesia overseas by participating in the United Nations’ Vesak Conference in Vietnam in 2014, and in Thailand in 2023.

Most Venerable Bhikkhuni Ng A. Tjio provided disaster relief services to persons impacted by the 2004 Banda Aceh Tsunami, the 2006 Yogyakarta earthquake and the 2009 Padang earthquake.  She also organized free medical services at Prajna Dhyana Temple and in East Nusa Tenggara.  Each year she organizes basic necessities distribution to those experiencing poverty, those in nursing homes and orphans in children’s homes. She offered Eight-fold Path training in 2023 at Prajna Dhyana Temple in Jakarta, and short-term training at Guanyin Temple in Jakarta in 2014 and again in 2023.  Most Venerable Bhikkhuni Ng A. Tjio has focus, accepts responsibility, and offers charity to others.  She walks the Bodhisattva Path.

釋如善比丘尼 – 印尼

最尊敬的釋如善比丘尼於1960年出生於印尼棉蘭，她獲得健康科學學位。其後，她出家成為了沙彌尼，繼而受比丘尼戒。她建造了三座寺廟：1992年在巨港建造蓮根寺，1995年在巨港建造報恩寺，2011年在雅加達建造了智音寺。目前，她擔任巨港報恩寺的住持。最尊敬的釋如善比丘尼代表巨港與雅加達，擔任印尼佛教協會（WALUBI）的僧伽成員。除了日常寺院職責外，她還為國家作出貢獻，例如於2003年至2005年期間，負責於曼都寺舉行的衛塞節的主祭壇裝飾，2006年至2016年在婆羅浮屠寺衛塞節的主祭壇裝飾，以及2023年婆羅浮屠衛塞節大乘主祭壇裝飾。她也代表印尼出席海外活動，包括2014年在越南和2023年在泰國舉行的聯合國衛塞節會議。最尊敬的釋如善比丘尼為災民提供救援服務，包括2004年亞齊海嘯、2006年日惹地震和2009年巴東地震的受災群眾，她還在智音寺和東努沙登加拉省組織免費醫療服務。每年，她都會組織基本生活用品發放活動，向貧困者、養老院院友和兒童之家院童分發物資。她於2023年在雅加達智音寺舉行八正道培訓，並於2014年和2023年在雅加達觀音寺進行了短期培訓。最尊敬的釋如善比丘尼專注有度，勇於承擔，慈悲助人，踐行菩薩道。

MOST VENERABLE BHIKSUNI TZUYEN – TAIWAN

Most Venerable Bhiksuni Tzuyen having ordained and practiced in a Bhiksuni Sangha, deeply values lifelong education that comes from communal living and learning.  She recognizes that contemporary monastics need effective organizational systems for stability.  She recognized the profound impact of Bhiksuni education on monastic development.  This led her to teach at Luminary Buddhist Institute for over 30 years.  She has taught:  Calligraphy, Library and Information Usage, Research Methods, Book Review Writing, Special Topics Writing, Sutra and Commentary Reading, Indian Buddhist History, Introduction to Buddhism and Buddhist Studies, Lotus Sutra, as well as, the Shurangama Sutra.  She empowers student Bhiksunis through Dharma teachings and practices.  Through her guidance, they develop right views, compassionate aspirations, and active commitment.  This empowers them with inner strength for dedicated practice. Most Venerable Bhiksuni Tzuyen manages the library of the Luminary International Buddhist Society.  She earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Media and Library Sciences.  Her mentor, Venerable Master Bhiksuni Wu-Yin, reminded her: “All our work benefits the entire Buddhist community.”  She modernized the Taiwanese library system for Buddhist texts, as well as, contributed to the categorical modernization of mainland China’s collection.  For nearly four decades, she has overseen major transitions in library services.  These transitions included:  shifting from paper to digital formats, moving from physical to virtual collections, and upgrading from manual to AI-powered services.  For these efforts, she was awarded:  the Taiwan Ministry of Education’s Award: “The Library Service Contribution Award” and the Republic of China’s Library Association Award, “30 Years Senior Library Service Award.” 

Most Venerable Bhiksuni Tzuyen, over the past decade, has focused on integrating mindfulness with education.  She emphasizes life education and creates friendly campus environments.  This has become her platform for serving others.  Guided by her aspirations of personal cultivation through benefiting others, Most Venerable Bhiksuni Tzuyen walks the Bodhisattva path. 釋自衍比丘尼 – 台灣

VENERABLE ANI CHOYING DROLMA – NEPAL

Venerable Ani Choying Drolma is a Nepalese Buddhist nun renowned for her numerous humanitarian efforts, including the education of young girls, care of older people, and providing medical services for the underprivileged and dispossessed.  Her efforts have been constantly praised and emulated, and her autobiography, Singing for Freedom, has been published in 14 languages and listed as an international best seller. To support her many charitable activities, Ani performs worldwide singing traditional and modernized Buddhist chants, as well as, Nepali and Tibetan songs.  She has performed to countless fans and has numerous albums. Ani believes, if given equal opportunities, nuns have the potential to make the world a better place.  One of her great and early accomplishments was the creation of the Arya Tara School, which opened in 2000.  The school aims to equip nuns with the abilities and skills necessary to professionally serve their communities in a humanitarian capacity. In 2006, she built drinking water facilities for 250 houses in the village of Arya Tara School.  In 2010, she started Aarogya Foundation to provide high-quality yet low-cost dialysis services, and improving medical facilities in Nepal.  In 2013, she shed light and love upon single mothers and established the Aarya Tara Pre School to care for children of single mothers during working hours.

In 2016, so many children were impacted by the earthquake and schools were damaged.  Venerable Ani Choying Drolma, she started the Stars of Hope Scholarship Program for children who are earthquake victims, orphans or experiencing extreme poverty.  She rebuilt the Gothandevi Primary School in Tipling Dhading and helped rebuild the Shree Tarevir Primary School in Gokarneshwor Municipality.  She even helped financially in the construction of a suspension bridge in Baruwa Sunchour. In 2019, she started a financial support program for treating severe burn patients, and in 2021 established a Day Care for the Elderly along with the local government of Kritipur.  In 2023, she donated significantly to the construction of a Children’s Hospital. Ani Choying Drolma since 2014 has been appointed as the first UNICEF National Goodwill Ambassador for Nepal for two terms.

MOST VENERABLE BHIKSUNI SHIK CHI HUAN – MALAYSIA

Most Venerable Bhiksuni Shik Chi Huan is the Abbess of Fa Lin Xue Yuan Johor Bahru and the Abbess of Nan Fang Jing Yuan Muar Temples.  She has been ordained for 44 years.  The Most Venerable is frequently invited to serve at various programs, including:  Buddhist youth training camps, Dharma friends’ life camps, motivational courses, children’s camps, Buddhist women’s seminars, and is often invited to plan and help organize Dharma propagation activities by Buddhist groups and temples throughout Malaysia.  She has empowered Buddhist writers and leaders and encouraged the creation of more Buddhist publications and online content, and promoted leadership roles for women in Buddhist communities. A prominent leader in the Malaysian Buddhist community, she has held various posts in the Malaysian Buddhist Association, and is the Religious Advisor of the Young Buddhist Association of Malayasia.  She served as the first Chairperson of the Pumen Poor Children’s Charity Fund and is a permanent member of the Malaysian Life Line Association. For her decades of service to the Malaysian Buddhist community, she was awarded the “Sumangalo Award” in 2001 by YBAM, the “Best Buddhist Service Spirit Award” in 2018 by MBA, and the “Outstanding Women in Buddhism Award” in 2025.

釋繼歡比丘尼 – 馬來西亞

最尊敬的釋繼歡長老比丘尼現任柔佛州新山市法霖學苑住持，以及麻坡南方淨苑住持，已出家44年。長老尼經常受邀參與各類活動，包括：佛教青年訓練營、佛青之友生活營、激勵課程、兒童歡樂營、佛教婦女講習營等，並常受馬來西亞各佛教團體和寺院邀請，協助策劃和組織各地弘法活動。她致力培養佛教作家和領袖，鼓勵創作更多佛教出版物和線上內容，並積極推動女性在佛教社群中擔任領導角色。作為馬來西亞佛教界的傑出領袖，她在馬來西亞佛教總會擔任過多項職務，並擔任馬來西亞佛教青年總會的宗教顧問。她曾擔任普門貧童慈濟會首任主席，也是馬來西亞生命線協會的永久會員。為表彰她數十年來對馬來西亞佛教界的貢獻，她於2001年獲馬來西亞佛教青年總會頒發「善蒙伽羅獎」（Sumangalo Award），2018年獲馬來西亞佛教總會頒發「最佳佛教服務精神獎」，並於2025年獲頒「國際傑出佛教女性獎」。
