Most Venerable Master Bhikkhuni Shih Sheng Hua – Chief Abbes of Pu Tuo Shan Temple in Taiwan and Cambodia, President of China International Pu Tuo Shan and Putuoshan Temple in Shulin District of New Taipei City, Taiwan / Putuoshan Monastery in Tongluo, Taiwan / Putuoshan International Association / Putuoshan Monastery in Cambodia / Putuoshan Minghua Care Center in Cambodia was born in Changhua, Taiwan in 1955 and was given the name Zhuang Liangshu. When she was young, her family was extremely poor. Her father was a miner, and her family lived in a dilapidated house made of earthen bricks. A suitcase they found served as the family’s closet. At age 5 or 6 she scavenged for pieces of coal or scraps. She only wanted to earn money to help her family, even though children of the same age played freely. Her family was so poor that they did not have money to buy food. She couldn’t go to school, so she hid outside the classroom door to listen to the teachers teach their classes. The children at the school were very kind to her and often brought bread and milk for her to take home. None of this stopped her from building three monasteries and two educational charities: Putuoshan Temple in Shulin District of New Taipei City, Taiwan / Putuoshan Monastery in Tongluo, Taiwan / Putuoshan International Association / Putuoshan Monastery in Cambodia / Putuoshan Minghua Care Center in Cambodia. Mahasthamaprata’s Perfection in the Mindfulness of the Buddha,” to keep being mindful is to “focus the six sense organs on mindfulness and purify the mind-stream.” In other words, we don’t “shut” our sense organs, but direct them all to the object, knowing it clearly without discrimination, attachment or yearning for deluded thoughts. That is also being mindful of the Buddha. If we always keep the Buddha in mind, we will then have no deluded thoughts and our pure mind will naturally emerge. Then we are sure to see the Buddha, or our true nature of purity, now or in the future. Even though we remain in the burning house of the three realms of cyclic existence, we can be as nice and cool as lotuses in a muddy pond. Most Venerable Bhikkhunis Videos

Many Chinese will be visiting the tombs of their ancestors on April to pay their respects, as the Qingming Festival, also called Pure Bright Day or Tomb-Sweeping Day, falls on that day this year. Qingming is an important traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the 15th day after the spring equinox. It’s not only a day for honoring one’s ancestors but also a time to celebrate spring. The origin of the Qingming Festival can be traced back to a legend recorded in “Zuo Zhuan,” one of the earliest Chinese works of narrative history, which covers most of the Spring and Autumn. Ching Ming literally means Pure Brightness, hinting at its importance as a celebration of Spring and marking the beginning of the planting season and above all, a sacred day of the dead. Tomb Sweeping Day is a day to remember and honour one’s ancestors. Young and old pray before their ancestors, weed and sweep the family graves, clean the headstones, offer food, and light incense and burn imitation paper money.
